The Big Whoosh

They said they had a dream of mass arrest,
Of holding hands as one, exclaiming ‘whoosh’!
Clogging gaols would put the law to test
And give the dominant paradigm a push:
With idealistic volunteers from town
Instructed how to set the forest free
By the art of going limp and falling down
Innocuous as lemmings at the sea;
For this would be a social change event
With peaceful precepts always to the fore,
So everyone would willingly consent
To action by prescription with the law.
Revealed: the noble plan to save the bush –
Until the very plan itself went ’whoosh’.

Some play the game with fundamental zeal,
Some bend the rules any way they can,
To some the words of Jesus have appeal –
The Buddha was a very moral man:
It’s known a mob will swallow any thing
And history will verify the claim
Since Mahatma Gandhi and Martin King
Were inducted to the spiritual hall of fame.
But though their bodies moulder in the grave,
Their banners proudly billow in the sky,
Saluted by the pious and the brave
Marching to the call of ‘do or die!’ –
In justice for the world believing strong:
For those who have the dream the wait is long.
